According to British Ambassador to the UN Lyall Grant, British Foreign Secretary William Hague expects the UNSC to vote for a humanitarian resolution on Syria next week, ITAR-TASS reports.
Russian Representative to the UN Vitaly Churkin said that the resolution project developed by Austria, Jordan and Luxembourg will not be passed because it will have no practical effect in Syria and would ruin humanitarian efforts instead.
Co-authors of the resolution wanted to present it to Russia, the UK, China, the US and France but the talks have never taken place. Lyall Grant noted that Russia had refused to work on the resolution project and had offered no changes of its own to the document.
The resolution threatens with sanctions anyone blocking delivery of humanitarian aid. The document gives 15 days to end all violence, violations of international law, bombings of residential areas and attacks on humanitarian agents. The resolution demands the blockade of all cities to be lifted.
