French Representative to the UN Gerard Araude said yesterday that the resolution project for the humanitarian situation of Syria will be balanced and will not complicate the Geneva-2 talks, ITAR-TASS reports.
He reminded that the only achievement since the start of the inter-Syrian dialogue was the ceasefire in Homs that allowed hundreds of people, about 1% of all residents in the city, to be evacuated.
The resolution composed by Australia, Jordan and Luxembourg was presented to 15 members of the UN Security Council yesterday. British Representative to the UN Lyall Grant said that he was expecting a vote on the document tomorrow.
Araude called the document ‘moderate’ and ‘very simple.’ In his words, it ends the blockade of cities, attacks by the regime, demilitarizes hospitals, schools and civil infrastructure, allows deliveries of humanitarian aid.
However, the resolution demands full humanitarian access in an ultimatum-like form, threatening to impose sanctions for any disobedience. Araude noted that he would have made a more harsh resolution if he could.
