Although today's verdict to the former Georgian Prime Minister Vano Merabishvili is just on point in the general picture, it should be considered a success of the Georgian legal system, Petre Mamradze, the Head of the Institute for strategic government, said today to VK.
"First of all, the legislation created under Saakashvili is very contradictory. The term of five years for the crimes of Merabishvili looks modest. Second, Merabishvili committed his crimes as a Prime Minister, as a second person in the country, all these sums of money, millions of dollars, fake jobs where nobody worked".
However paradoxical, five years for this crime of despoilment of state property is a success. "At this stage this verdict is a success, because the court is generally controlled by the leftovers of the UNM. It is surprising that someone could at all convict Merabishvili", explained the expert.
