Azerbaijani view on South Caucasus security

Fikret Sadykhov, a Professor of the Western University, and Rasim Musabekov, a member of the Azerbaijani parliament and a political analyst, believe that settlement of conflicts in Nagorno-Karabakh, Abkhazia and South Ossetia is vital for stability in the region. Sadykhov reminds that Azerbaijan has no diplomatic contacts with Armenia for occupation of its lands, Georgia has no relations with Russia for a similar reason. Musabekov sees escalation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani contact line.

The experts expect not peaceful future in the region as long as any territories remain occupied. Sadykhov notes that any reconciliation of Georgia and Russia is positive but Armenia still refuses to fulfill UN resolutions and makes no attempts to make the first step. Azerbaijan has already used all its limits for compromises up.

Musabekov notes that peace can be achieved by a breakthrough in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement. The process can boost settlement of the Abkhazian and South Ossetian conflict. Cooperation of all countries of the South Caucasus would allow them to unblock all borders and form a full-fledged region. The expert points out that Armenia falls out of the context of Azerbaijani-Turkish relations and Georgia in the context of Russian relations.

Musabekov concludes that there is nothing productive to highlight in the current state of affairs, despite the fact that there is a solution to the differences.
