Ismail Agakishiyev, Chairman of the board of directors of the Analysis, Consulting, PR Union of Companies, has rounded up the international conference “Geopolitics of the Caspian-Black Sea Region: security problems” in Baku yesterday, stating that all countries of the Caspian-Black Sea Region had their own vision of security and all agreed that joint projects would bring them closer. Joint projects, in his words, would weaken influence of non-regional forces, such as NATO, in the area.
Agakishiyev said that special attention should be paid to analysis of the events in Ukraine. He reminded that radical nationalists were a minority among the protesters and most of them were unhappy with their social position. The expert added that the population of Ukraine had been declining since the early 1990s, living standards had been going downhill, while some individuals had been enriching themselves. Nothing was done to improve the situation and current events in Ukraine are the repercussion of this negligence, supposes the analyst.
He noted that blame-storming would not help resolve the problem. Such problems are more or less common in the post-Soviet space. Agakishiyev assumes that governments should focus on economic projects.
Concerning security matters, the analyst expressed regret that no stable regional peace had been established. Territorial conflicts and threats between neighbours are still a problem. The expert urged countries to cooperate in economic projects and use the markets of Russia and their neighbours efficiently.
Ismail Agakishiyev drew attention to the fact that regional markets allowed countries to find their place in economy, develop industry and agriculture. He admitted that it was hard to enter the European market, regardless of product quality. The expert reminded mentioned Japan, China and Singapore as examples of success achieved through serious approach to economic development.
Agakishiyev thanked the Baku office of the North-South Center for Political Analysis for the well-organized round-table conference and presence of competent experts.
