Political contacts between the Russian and Turkish authorities have been enhanced since President Putin's press conference, during which he said that Moscow was not going to send troops to the Crimea.
Last night President Putin had a phone conversation with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The parties agreed to keep in touch and cooperate in order to secure peace in the region.
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has also reacted to the crisis, saying that Russia's strategic interests in the region should be taken into consideration, but stressed that any change of state borders is unacceptable.
