Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that the country will protect its territory in Syria and withstand any attacks on the Suleyman Shah tomb, Trend reports.
Suleyman Shah (1178-227) was the grandfather of Osman I Gazi, founder of the Ottoman Empire. Suleyman drowned crossing the Euphrates and was buried near the Jaber Castle in a place later called the Turk Tomb, which Turks consider holy. The territory is protected by Turkish troops.
The tomb is currently under control of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, an organization closely connected with Al Qaeda.
