The Turkish authorities have accepted a key appeal filed by an opposition party in the Black Sea province of Kastamonu regarding the initial results of the March 30 local elections, Hurriyet Daily News reports.
The Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) had filed an official complaint after it lost the municipal elections in Kastamonu with a mere 245 votes to the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), arguing there were wrongdoings in the registration of votes in 130 ballot boxes.
After the Provincial Election Council refused the MHP’s complaint, the party applied to the Supreme Election Council. The body upheld the appeal and instructed the Provincial Election Council to investigate the claims again. The official results will not be released before the investigation is completed.
