Georgia is going to sign an association agreement with the European Union soon, but it will maintain its efforts to improve ties with Russia, Georgian Foreign Minister Maya Pandzhikidze announced after meeting her German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmaier.
Vestnik Kavkaza discuss this multi-vector policy with Vakhtang Maisia and Petre Mamradze.
According to Maisia, Georgia's integration into the EU poses no threats to Russia. In fact, it will be a new opportunity for Russia to enhance its cooperation with the body, the expert believes.
He stresses that before the Crimean crisis Russia was doing its best to improve ties with the EU, including measures to ease the visa regime.
Petre Mamradze, however, thinks that the Kremlin will be angered by the country's integration into the European Union and may even take some "harsh" measures. According to the expert, if western powers try to use Georgia to pressure Russia, Moscow will respond to these policies.
