Kiev authorities held a round-table conference yesterday. OSCE Chairman-in-Office Didier Burkhalter said that starting a national dialogue in Ukraine will stabilize the situation in the country. He met Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier and proposed a road map to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
The Russia Today Director General Dmitri Kiselev noted that the round-table conference and the OSCE could save Ukraine. But, in his opinion, Europe had no political figures that could accept the real situation.
Sergey Slobodchuk, director of Slobodchuk and Partners: Politics, PR, Elections Company, said that such conferences should be attended by all sides of the conflict. He believes that the round-table conferences were organized for the coming elections, which the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts refuse to hold. The analyst noted that the U.S. was obviously siding with Turchynov and Yatsenyuk and Europe will back the winner of the elections, which is why Merkel was so concerned about the May 25 votes.
Kiselev added that the conference and dialogue were a right step. He believes that the talks should have been organized 2.5 months earlier. Kiselev reminded that there was no mechanism to implement the agreements. Slobodchuk said that the round-table conferences will be comparable to the fate of Geneva-2 without the mechanisms.
