Georgian President Georgy Margelashvili and Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili are still in the Kazbeg Discrict, which has been hit by a mudslide. The natural disaster occurred not far from the Russian border.
The mudslide has damaged the only highway connecting Georgia and Armenia with Russia.
Some believe that the disaster may have been caused by the construction of a new hydroelectric plant in the region. However Georgian Minister of Energy Kakha Kaladze says such speculations are baseless.
The Georgian Ministry of the Economy told Vestnik Kavkaza that the economic results of the catastrophe are going to be very serious.
