Knesset to elect new president on June 10

The elections are secret. A candidate needs a majority of the votes and will be elected to serve for 7 years. A candidate can be elected only once. Three-quarters of the votes are needed to impeach the president.Israeli President Shimon Peres, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, will resign in mid-June 2014. He replaced Moshe Katsav in June 2007.
