According to the Turkish media, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkey is preparing a series of bills to reform the law enforcement bodies. In particular, the Gendarmerie Forces are expected to be withdrawn from the Land Forces of the Turkish Armed Forces. In addition, local authorities will be able to appoint the heads of the gendarmerie forces and not the MIA. It is also planned to close police schools.
As reported earlier by Trend, the Turkish government is preparing a special package of measures to fight against the supporters of Fethullah Gulen, an Islamic public figure who currently resides in the United States who are attempting to infiltrate in the government structure of the country.
The Gendarmerie forces exist in Turkey since 1839 and are part of the Land Forces, although they are subject to the Ministry of Internal Affairs in peacetime.
