Ankara and Tehran work towards stability in the region

Ankara and Tehran work towards stability in the regionToday after talks with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Turkish President  Abdullah Gul said that the development of the Middle East would be the inevitable result of cooperation between Tehran and Ankara. Rouhani, in turn, stressed that both countries seek to convey to the world true Islam and therefore aim to work together to combat terrorism and radicalism."Instability in the region is not going to benefit anyone. So Iran and Turkey intend to develop cooperation. We will do everything for peace and stability in the region. Our region should be cleaned not only of nuclear, but also of conventional weapons," said Rouhani, who is in Turkey on an official visit. The presidents also agreed to strengthen economic ties between the two countries.Although the previous official visit of an Iranian president to Turkey took place 18 years ago, now there are no principal disagreements between the two countries that could negatively influence the region, a senior research fellow of the Center for International Security if the Russian Academy of Sciences, Stanislav Ivanov, told VK.  "In the last year Ankara has distanced itself from Israel, and I think that Tehran likes this. Turkey tries to have a separate foreign policy, independent of the US and NATO, which is also welcomed in Iran. They also cooperate in Afghanistan," Ivanov said."An exchange of opinions on the Syrian question will take place, but their positions are opposite and are unlikely to come closer.  Iran can ask for stricter control on the Turkish-Syrian border to prevent the arrival of militants and radical extremists in Syria, but their opinions of Bashar Assad's regime are unlikely to change," the expert told VK.
