U.S. President Barack Obama and King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia have discussed the situation in Iraq and the progress of the threat of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) in a telephone conversation, RIA Novosti reports.
Both leaders confirmed the need to form a new government in Iraq to consolidate the country. Obama thanked King Abdullah for granting $500 million to support Iraqi refugees.
The U.S. and a set of other countries are calling on Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki to form a government consisting of more religious communities, including Sunnis. Al-Maliki, a Shiite, has dismissed the calls, saying that allowing more Sunnis to join the government would violate the Constitution.
