The former Georgian prime minister and current leader of the "For a
Fair Georgia" opposition movement, Zurab Nogaideli, intends to visit
Moscow at the end of May and continue discussions to reinstate direct
flights between Georgia and Russia.
"I will make another visit to Moscow in May. We continue to talk about
continual and regular flights between Georgia and Russia, and there is
a high likelihood that a decision will be taken", Nogaideli said at a
press conference on Wednesday, noting that the exact dates of his
visit would be made public in the next few days, reports Georgia News.
On his last visit to Moscow, his sixth since October last year,
discussions took place on the reinstatement of direct air
communications between Georgia and Russia and the return of Georgian
produce to the Russian market.
Nogaideli also asked the "United Russia" party about mediation in the
dialogue with Abkhazia and South Ossetia on the question of the return
of forcibly displaced persons in the Kodor Gorge and Ahalgorski
(Leningorski) region.
Another visitor to Moscow at the beginning of March was the former
speaker of the Georgian parliament and current leader of the
"Democratic Movement -United Georgia" opposition party, Nino
Burdzhanadze. The visits of the Georgin opposition leaders to Moscow
have become the basis for sharp criticism from the Georgian
authorities and some of the opposition, even as far as charging them
with betraying their country. For its part, Russia announced its
willingness to engage in dialogue with reasonable Georgian
politicians, naming Nogaideli and Burdzhanadze among their number
