James Appathurai, the NATO special representative for the South Caucasus and Central Asia, has left Georgia. He arrived in Georgia the previous day. The official met Georgian President Georgy Margvelashvili, Prime Minister Irakly Garibashvili, State Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Alex Petriashvili, Foreign Minister Maya Panjikidze, Defense Minister Irakly Alasania, News Georgia reports.Appathurai said that Brussels will discuss his visit. He noted that the NATO summit in Wales in early September will be fruitful for Georgia. The special representative believes that the summit will intensify security cooperation with Georgia and reaffirm commitment to help the country become a member of the organization.The talks on the NATO Membership Action Plan for Georgia have already started. NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said in late June that the Alliance will prepare a special package of measures to bring Georgia closer to the organization. Georgia will not get the MAP this yer.
