Obama demands Russia de-escalate Ukrainian crisis

U.S. President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron said in a telephone conversation that Russia must take immediate measures to de-escalate the conflict in Ukraine, ITAR-TASS reports.

In their words, Russian-supported separatists should follow the ceasefire agreements, efficient OSCE mechanisms to monitor the border should be formed, a road map prepared and hostages released.

Obama and Cameron noted that Europe and the U.S. needed to take coordinated steps towards implementation of harsher sanctions against Russia for refusing to de-escalate the conflict.

The sides discussed the nuclear negotiations of the five permanent members of the UNSC and Germany with Iran, and the situations in Afghanistan and Iraq.
