Turkish population protests against Israeli operation in Gaza

The Turkish public is protesting against the Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip. Protesters gathered in the Beyoglu District of Istanbul. Another group started demonstrations at the Israeli consulate general in the Levent District, demanding Israel leave Palestine and encouraging Hamas to fight Israel, RIA Novosti reports.

The police used water cannon and tear gas to stop the crowds.

About a thousand people gathered at the Israeli ambassador’s residence in Ankara. They threw stones at the residence and placed a Palestinian flag on the fence. The police protected the building.

Demonstrators were reading the Holy Quran and holding morning prayers at the U.S. consulate general in Adana.

A group of 25 people in Izmir gathered on the central square, prayed for Palestinians killed in the operation and shouted encouraging slogans for the population of the Gaza Strip.
