Azerbaijan develops long-term employment concept

The Azerbaijani Labour and Social Protection Ministry is developing a long-term employment concept until 2026. Labour Minister Salim Muslimov reminded that the order to develop the document had been given by President Ilham Aliyev after discussing the socio-economic development of the country in the first half of 2014 with the government.

The minister emphasized the need to work with agencies and specialists of the ANAS Institute for Economics. Nazim Imanov, the director of the Institute, approved the idea of inviting scientists to collaborate in developing the document.

Muslimov noted that 62,000 jobs, 52,000 of them permanent, had been created in the first half of 2014, reaching a record of 1.3 million jobs created since 2003.

A report about the success of the project for assisting graduates of universities to find jobs was released on Friday. The project is realized with the International Labour Organization, based on the CIS youth employment cooperation project. 15 graduates were employed. They will get wages from subsidies of the ILO.

Muslim had talks with Gordon Birrell, the BP regional chairman for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey. They discussed the employment action plan of the ministry, BP and SOCAR. The plan will include labour protection, professional training of the unemployed, retraining, jobs for the disabled, young people and members of other social groups.
