Members of the Crimean State Council have passed the law on election of the head of the Crimean Republic. Three candidates for the post will be proposed by the Russian president. Local MPs will then have 20 days to study them and vote for each candidate separately, ITAR-TASS reports.
Should no candidate gain enough votes, another round of voting will be organized for the two candidates with the most votes. The winner will head the republic for 5 years and have the authority of a member of the upper chamber of the Russian parliament.
Sergey Aksenov will remain the acting head of Crimea until the elections. The State Council will discuss the elections on September 14.
