Moscow has started the “Great War. Lessons of History” science forum today, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the start of WWI. The president of Russian Railways Vladimir Yakunin read out a message from Russian President Vladimir Putin to participants in the forum. Putin reminded in his message that 3 million Russians had been killed in the war. He assured that the feats of the soldiers and officers of WWI would always be respected.
Sergey Naryshkin, the speaker of the Russian State Duma, head of the organizing committee of the 100th anniversary of WWI, the head of the Russian Historical Society, said that the war had been fatal for Europe and deadly for a whole age. He believes that Russia has a chance to prevent new global conflicts. Naryshkin criticized the U.S. for passing new sanctions and forming a blacklist, ignoring unbiased evaluations of the conflict in Ukraine.
