The Special Representative of the Georgian Prime Minister for Russia, Zurab Abashidze, says the two states are going to change the current format of their bilateral relations. In such a way the envoy commented on Moscow's decision to suspend the free trade agreement with Georgia.
"Let me note that, according to our information, a final decision has not been made yet. The Russian authorities are now reconsidering the agreement. However, even if the 1994 free trade agreement is indeed amended, it will only mean that the format of bilateral relations has changed," the envoy said.
"It will not mean that mutual trade is over," he said.
"Even if the agreement is annulled, Georgia and Russia will maintain mutual economic ties in the framework of the World Trade Organization," the official stressed.
Still, such a move will lead to rising prices for Georgian products on the Russian market, Abashidze stressed.
