Ahmed Zakayev, the Chechen separatist leader put on on the
international wanted list for terrorism by Russia, will turn himself
over to prosecutors in Warsaw at 8.00 am local time, accompanied by a
lawyer, RIA Novosti reports, citing one of the organizers of the Third
Universal Chechen Congress Adam Borovskiy.
Zakayev is currently in Poland in the city of Pultusk, 80 km away from Warsaw.
Borovskiy expressed hope that Zakayev will enter the prosecution
office together with deputies of the Polish Sejm, members of European
Parliament, and well-known experts and cultural figures.
Yesterday Polish police said that they will extradite Zakayev to
Russia if he enters Poland. Later Polish media reported, citing the
Polish government, that Poland will not extradite him.
