UN General Secretary Ban Ki-moon and Ugandan Foreign Minister Sam Kutesa will open the 69th session of the UN General Assembly in New York at 3.00pm today. Kutesa was elected in June as the president of the session. The 68th session comes to an end.
A climate summit will be held within the framework of the General Assembly on September 23, the annual political discussion of 193 UN members, including Palestine, will be held the next day. Palestine became an observer at the organization in 2012.
Russia will be represented by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, he will make a speech on September 27. U.S. President Barack Obama will speak on September 24, when the Security Council chaired by the U.S. will discuss international terrorism. The UN Security Council will discuss the humanitarian situation in Syria on September 30, starting with a report by Under-Secretary General Valerie Amos.
Iran and the Group of Six will have another round of talks in New York on September 18. Russia, U.S., UN and the EU will have a meeting for the Middle East peace process. Ukraine may be one of the topics at the meeting.
