29th round of Trans-Caucasus talks concluded in Geneva

Geneva concluded the 29th session of Trans-Caucasus discussions (October 7-8) yesterday. Russia expressed concerns about plans by Georgia to allow NATO to establish military infrastructure in the country. The Russian Foreign Ministry demands Georgia to give Abkhazia and South Ossetia guarantees of non-use of force, News Georgia reports.

Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani expressed satisfaction with the round of talks, Trend reports.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin said that the 29th round differed from previous ones by the constructive mood of its participants and efforts to find mutually-acceptable solutions. In his words, the participants of the talks described the situation in the region as stable. The Russian diplomat emphasized that further progress will depend on readiness to refrain from violence in the region.

Karasin clarified that the next round will be held in Geneva on December 9-10. The UN, OSCE and EU co-chairs will have visited the region by that time. They will discuss developments at a meeting in Moscow in December and analyze the situation, RIA Novosti reports.
