Mikheyev becomes first politologist blacklisted by EU

Sergey Mikheyev, a Russian politologist, deputy head of the Vestnik Kavkaza Editorial Council, the director general of the Institute for Caspian Cooperation, has discovered that he has been put on the EU blacklist when he tried to cross the Finnish border. In his words, Lithuania asked the EU to ban him from entering the Schengen Area. He believes that the ban was a response to his position on the Ukrainian crisis. The political analyst claims that he got the visa from Poland.

It is well known that the Baltic states have recently been turning Russians away from their territories. Estonia has already prohibited entry to ethnologist Valery Tishkov and Deputy Director of the Institute of CIS Countries Vladimir Zharikhin. Lithuania did the same with Director of the Historical Memory Foundation Alexander Dyukov, Latvia with Iosif Kobzon, Oleg Gazmanov, Valeria and Ivan Okhlobyzstin. Sergey Mikheyev turns out to be the first Russian to be banned from all EU states.

Ismail Agakishiyev, vice president of the Consulting-Analysis-PR Union of Companies, an expert of Vestnik Kavkaza, called Mikheyev a man respected in Russia and all post-Soviet states, a patriot of Russia. Agakishiyev said that the West should respect such a politologist for his readiness for dialogue. He predicts that the ban on Mikheyev’s visits to Europe will be lifted soon.

Andrey Petrov, deputy director general of the Lomonosov MSU Center for Information and Analysis, said that Mikheyev’s incident could become common practice unless the European Commission considers the precedent properly. According to Petrov, the Baltic states are notorious for their hatred of Russians.
