Experts are debating the future of the Georgian Dream coalition after the Free Democrats Party led by one of the ruling coalition's co-founders, former minister of defense Irakli Alasania, left the coalition.
After the Free Democrats left the coalition it only has 73 seats in the parliament, while 75 are necessary to control the chamber.
However the coalition remained in power, as 12 independent lawmakers joined Georgian Dream.
Amid ongoing tensions, the major opposition United National Movement party founded by former president Mikheil Saakashvili announced its plans to hold a major protest campaign. Irakli Alasania has also been invited to the protest rally.
The authorities believe that the United National Movement will use the action to organize provocations in order to sabotage the current government.
