Vitaly Naumkin: Muslims need to be unitedIn the current difficult situation, Muslims of Russian need to unite with the Muslims of other countries to resist today's challenges to Islam, said Vitaly Naumkin, Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, in an interview to VK at the 10th Forum "Mission of religion and the responsibility of its followers in the face of modern challenges"."The first task when some global powers try to impose their civilizational models on other societies, to order and subordinate them, is to unite. Muslims of Russia and the entire continent, primarily from partner-countries, need to unite and resist the attack against Islam," he said. The second task, in his view, is the response to extremist and terrorist organizations. "Terrorism does not have a religion. Based in the Middle East, it threatens our brothers in that region and ourselves. Today, unification on the basis of spirituality, adherence to enlightened conservatism, our values that are widely discussed, will allow us to become closer on this ground," Naumkin argued. The head of the Mufti Council of Russia, Ravil Gaynutdin, believes that the new millenium has not broughr more security to the world. "Today it is more fragile than before, because entire regions have become places of cruel conflict. When people exclude God from their hearts, they come to the road of fraternicide, war and violence - and the current conflicts are a reflection of serious internal processes. We have a crisis of spirituality caused by declaring that the anthropocentric world is the "universal value", he said.
