Secretary of the Georgian Security Council Irina Imerishvili said at a session of the parliamentary committee for defense and security that the terms of service of the two squads serving within the framework of the peace mission in the Central African Republic should be extended by 3 months, Trend reports.
The EU mission is supposed to end in December 2014. The UN asked the EU to extend the mission until March 15, 2015. Georgia is the second-largest contributor of troops to the mission.
According to Imerishvili, France and the EU asked Georgia to continue the mission. She noted that the main problem was malaria, although soldiers were being vaccinated. In her words, the population in the African republic was friendly towards the Georgian troops and had not attacked them.
