Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the EU should not try to teach it democracy. This has been Erdogan's second critical remark towards the EU this week, TASS reports.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Johannes Hahn called the arrests of over 20 people, including famous journalists, for allegedly being aligned with Fethullah Gulen's Hizmet movement, incompatible with freedom of the media.
Erdogan accused Europe of racism, Islamophobia and discrimination. He added that Turkey's attitude towards the situation in Egypt and Syria gave it the right to teach Europe democracy.
The Turkish president reminded that Europe had been dragging out the EU membership process for Turkey for decades.
