Olga Timofeyeva, a Russian senator, a member of the Federation Council Committee for International Affairs, a lawmaker from Sevastopol, said that Crimea will mark the first New Year as a Russian territory. In her words, Sevastopol responded to all the challenges in early September. The goal now is to fit into the country and become a donor to other regions of Russia, according to the senator.
Timofeyeva noted that Sevastopol was ready to fully integrate into the Russian economy, which will be a complicated process. She reminded that there were restrictions to the water and power supplies, and the effects of sanctions are slowing the development of the region. Timofeyeva described Ukraine asq a failed state, reminding about the Crimea-Dnieper, when Kiev had blocked the water supply and flooded Kherson. The canal was later filled with better water.
The senator said that Russian norms will come into force in Crimea on January 1, 2015, and on March 1 in some areas.
