Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon said that Israel does not expect tensions on its northern border, but is ready for any eventuality.
"Israel does not expect that tensions between Israel and Hezbollah will escalate into war, but should nonetheless be ready for such a possibility," TASS cited him.
The minister has answered questions about Sunday's air strike near the Syrian town of Quneitra, which killed six members of the Iranian "Revolutionary Guards", including a brigadier-general and six activists of the Shia "Hezbollah" group.
He refused to confirm Israel's participation in the operation. "Israel is always blamed. We are used to being blamed for all activities in the region and that is the case, but because of the threats on behalf of Hezbollah we should be ready. We don’t fear escalation into war, but nonetheless we should be ready for any action including escalation," Ya'alon said.
A member of the Hezbollah board, Mahmoud al-Kumata, said yesterday that "resistance forces" reserve the right to respond to the Israeli challenge. "It's going to happen at the right time in the right place," he warned.
