Russian Foreign Ministry rounds up 2014

The Russian Foreign Ministry has rounded up the developments of 2014. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that resolution of global security and stability problems needed joint efforts. He called attempts to isolate Russia pointless. The minister emphasized that no new Cold War would start, urging Washington to resume a constructive approach.

He reminded that NATO had halted cooperation with Russia. Russia will work on settlement of the Ukrainian conflict according to the Minsk agreements, it will initiate a nationwide dialogue.

Lavrov believes that Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko is ready to discuss withdrawal of forces. Ukraine needed municipal elections with Russia’s support, Lavrov said. The Russian minister expressed the commitment of Moscow to settle the conflict with respect for territorial integrity.

Lavrov demanded that the people accusing Russia of sending troops and weapons to Ukrainian rebels and shooting down a Malaysian Boeing present proof. Russia will help its companies in Ukraine and any other countries. It rules out coups, as expressed in a resolution presented at the latest session of the UN General Assembly. Lavrov noted that there were chances to settle the Iranian nuclear problem by July, based on agreements reached in November.

Concerning the atrocious murder of an Armenian family in Gyumri by a Russian soldier, Lavrov said that there were signs of politicization. All measures needed to investigate it will be taken. Russia and China will continue development of relations. Russia will use its opportunity to chair the SCO and BRICS in 2015 to boost the formats.
