Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah, who marked his 90th birthday last year, has died early on Friday, a statement carried by state television said.
"His Highness Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and all the members of the family and the nation mourn the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, who passed away at exactly 1 a.m. this morning," the statement said.
The King will be buried today, his body will be taken to the main mosque in Riyadh, the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque. And then the body will be taken to the Al Oud cemetery in Riyadh for burial.
In December King Abdullah had been in hospital for several weeks and was suffering from pneumonia.
Crown Prince Salman is now officially the new Saudi king, he also served as deputy prime minister and defence minister.
The late king's half brother Muqrin, who is in his late 60s, has been named the new crown prince.
Palestine declared three days mourning period following Abdullah's death, Jordan declared a 40-day mourning period. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi flew from Davos in Riyadh to attend the funeral. He said that "The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Arab nation have lost a prominent leader, who had given a lot to his people and nation." American leaders also expressed condolences over the death of Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud.
