Islamic State will not be defeated without Russia

London's Independent newspaper columnist Mary Dejevsky said that the world is not able to defeat the war in Syria and Iraq with the terrorist group "Islamic State" (IS) without Russia.

"International co-operation can only work if all the key players are invited, and that means Russia," TASS cited her.

Speaking of the mixed impressions of the Thursday meeting of delegates from 21 countries in London, Dejevsky noted that "the crisis in Ukraine is confusing minds in the West."

The journalist drew attention to the absence at the meeting of delegates of the Russian Federation, as well as US Secretary of State John Kerry's references "only to a previous meeting in Brussels. But when a similar group of foreign ministers gathered in Paris last September to discuss Iraq, it was attended by the Russian foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov."

Dejevsky criticizes the current position of the West, which ia associated with attempts to isolate Russia in the maximum possible number of directions. This approach, according to her, on the one hand, is not conducive to fruitful development of relations with the Russians. Secondly, she said that "IS and militant Islamism more generally, is an enemy that the West and Russia have in common." The third problem is that the desire of the West to ostracize the Russian Federation "risks delaying any end to the conflict in Ukraine".

The author notes that the Western media has begun reporting less about the diplomatic initiatives of Moscow.
