Levada Center Director Lev Gudkov called Russian mass media the main source of such change of attitude among the population. He said that Russian media are flooded with information about hostility of the West towards Russia, provocations in Ukraine, military and geopolitical threats from the West, attempts to destroy the country. Gudkov noted that a similar situation had been seen during NATO bombings on Serbia in 1999, the war against Hussein’s regime in 2003, during the Russian-Georgian war in 2008. The official assured that turning the TV off for 2-3 months would change things back to normal because positive sentiment towards the EU dominates.
