Obama speaks about the constructive role of Russia in talks with Iran

US President Barack Obama welcomed Russia's actions in the negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program.

"Russia continues to play a constructive role in the negotiations on Iran," he said at a joint press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel at the White House, RIA Novosti reports.

According to Obama, "here have been no cracks on the P5+1 side of the table."

However, the US president said he did not see any sense in further extension of negotiations with Iran on its nuclear program, "if the Iranians do not agree with the basic requirements of the international community." According to him, the issues are about Iranian 'political will and desire'.

"I don't see a further extension being useful if they have not agreed to the basic formulation and the bottom line that the world requires to have confidence that they're not pursuing a nuclear weapon," the US president said, adding that technical issues were no longer an obstacle in reaching a comprehensive deal with Iran.

In addition, the head of the United States recognized that "many issues were clarified and many contradictions persisted." According to him, "the Iranians are following an agreement" and now "they need to make a decision."
