At a meeting with Siberian historians, the chairman of the State Duma, the head of the Russian Historical Society, Sergei Naryshkin, called on Russian and foreign scientists to fight historical libel.
According to Naryshkin, the calling of the Russian Historical Society is "civilized and responsible dialogue between government, society and experts of a historical character to open the way to deep professional research and not for those looking for a mere pretext for provocation and conflict in the past, and even distortion of the facts."
The chairman of the State Duma called it "one of the greatest threats to modern historical scholarship." "A striking example is disturbing trends of the silencing of the role of the USSR in the victory over fascism, attempts to create a halo around the heroes of Nazi criminals and their accomplices. These things are more outrageous as it approaches the central date of this year - the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory," TASS cited him.
"The scientific community has to make its voice heard to confront historical libel in coordination with foreign counterparts," Naryshkin said, noting that "it is dangerous not only for the purity of scientific knowledge, it corrodes the minds of generations, that led them in the way of false values."
"This is, unfortunately, what has happened in Ukraine, which led to the serious socio-political crisis and civil war in Ukraine that has already taken tens of thousands of lives," the speaker reminded.
