MPs from the ruling Justice and Development Party and the opposition pro-Kurdish People's Democracy Party have fought in the Grand National Assembly (parliament) of Turkey.

The fight occurred while discussing a package of reforms aimed at ensuring the security of Turkey's population in the parliament. An MP from the Peoples' Democratic Party of Turkey Ertugrul Kurkcu was injured, the Turkish newspaper Milliyet reports.Earlier, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that a number of reforms would be carried out in Turkey to ensure the population’s safety.

According to him, the forthcoming reforms stipulate a ban on holding any rallies aimed against Turkish statehood and threatening the lives of citizens. Davutoglu said that, in particular, the participants of rallies will be prohibited from covering their faces with special masks, and the use of such masks will be regarded as a threat.

Following this, a number of opposition parties presented a protest to Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party, stating that the country is becoming a 'police state'.
