Former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych said that he would return to Ukraine as soon as possible to ease the life of the Ukrainian people.
"I regret that I could not do anything. I guess for something I needed, and if we talk about today, when there will be opportunity to return - I will be back and I will do everything in my power to make life easier for people. The main task now - to stop the war," the former head of state said.
According to him, "no power is worth the losses suffered by Ukraine after the events of 21-22 February 2014."
"Today, the country is destroyed, territorial losses, human sacrifices, entire regions are destroyed. And the lawlessness that prevails today in relation to people in Ukraine is the result that the people in power have received after these events," Tass quoted Yanukovych.
In addition, he said he did not want to be a bystander to the events that took place in Ukraine.
"But I did not have a chance to go back, I will not deny that I sent people to Ukraine to monitor the situation. We are monitoring even now," the former president of Ukraine said.
According to him, he did not abandon the idea "of returning and leading the protest movement, and then to take some part in the defense of those people who are in this situation." "But it all came to the conclusion that our opponents, our enemies, they will do anything to destroy me, were categorically against all my colleagues, so I went to Ukraine. Dissuade me from all these issues. Events moved rapidly, find here this window did not work," concluded Yanukovych, stressing that he stayed alive for a reason.
