March of Peace to take place through the North and South Caucasus

A March of Peace, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, will leave Moscow for Jerusalem on March 1.

The purpose of the peacemaking pilgrimage, that will cover dozens of cities and several countries, is to attract world attention to the dangerous escalation of tensions in the international arena and the need for an active struggle against extremism, nationalism and fascism in different regions of the world, including in Ukraine and the Middle East.

"This is the first march organized by the Russian side, and it has no analogues in the world. Our March of Peace is addressed primarily to Muslims, because we believe that they are not involved in the peacekeeping mission," RIA Novosti cited the President of the Russian migrants' federation, Muhammad Amin Madjumder.

According to him, the evil in the world is that today armed conflicts take place in the Donbass, Palestine, Libya, Egypt, Syria and elsewhere, more than 1.5 billion people are starving, over 300 million young people are suffering from drug addiction and alcoholism, lost traditional family values. "All of this is the evil in the world. Our March of Peace opposes this evil," Madjumder said.

He explained that the marchers will leave Moscow by bus. On the way they will visit towns and villages of Chechnya, Dagestan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Jordan. The pilgrimage will be completed in Jerusalem. The route will run through the territory of Iraq, however, due to the complex political situation in the country, the delegation will cross it in a plane. In the final stage of the march - a common prayer in Jerusalem - about a hundred people will be involved, not only representatives of Islam, but also Christianity and Judaism.

We deliberately chose Jerusalem as the final city on our route. This is the city of the three Abrahamic religions, the city of peace. It is also important that our action is timed for the 70th anniversary of the Victory over fascism. Today it is no secret that many participants of the Second World War live in Israel," the President of the regional public organization 'Center of Palestinian Culture', Wafik Al-Shaer, said. The head of the international department of the Council of Muftis of Russia, Renat Abyanov, in his turn, noted that Russia and Russian Muslims are the initiators of the action - it's very symbolic. Earlier, during an interview with Vestnik Kavkaza, the head of Dagestan, Ramazan Abdulatipov, drew attention to the importance of the anniversary for the Dagestani people. "The memory of the Victory is our culture, the Victory is our worldview. I was one of those who set up the parade of Heirs of the Victory, because our numbers should not thin out, they need to grow, and today this parade is held not only in Dagestan, but also in other regions. The protection of the fatherland is in the blood of Dagestanis, there were thousands of Dagestanis who were the first volunteers who went to the front in the early days. Not only Dagestani men, but Dagestani women also went to war. Dagestani women who announced they were raising funds to build the tank column 'Shamil'. "In particular, you know, a Dagestani bride's silver costume weighs 10 kg - these ancient costumes, which were in the trunks of many Dagestani women -they pulled them out, and a tank column was commissioned to be created," Ramazan Abdulatipov reminded. The vice-president of the Russian Council on Foreign Affairs, the former president of North Ossetia, diplomat Alexander Dzasokhov, said that coming round date is an important opportunity for Russia in modern conditions and its current position in the international community, "not only to celebrate it, but also to reveal the truth about the Great Patriotic War and World War II"."We regret that in the general flow of completely unfounded attacks against our country there are pseudo-historical views on the role of other states in the defeat of the Third Reich," he said. Dzasokhov stressed the importance of preserving historical memory. "Our finger should be kept on the pulse. We must raise all the available historical documents about the fate of each member, a captain, a partisan, let us present the truth about the Great Patriotic War to our young people," he urged.
