Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu flew today to the United States, calling his visit a "historic mission" with the purpose of preventing a nuclear deal with Iran.
The prime minister intends to speak on March 3 at the US Congress about the threat of the Iranian atom, about the fatality of preparing agreements and the invalidity of the course of President Barack Obama's dialogue with Tehran. The speech is initiated by the Republicans - political opponents of Obama in the White House. It will be held two weeks before the parliamentary elections in Israel.
In order to emphasize the fatefulness of his visit, Netanyahu went to the Western Wall in Jerusalem. On the ruins of the Jewish Temple, destroyed by the ancient enemies of the Jews, Netanyahu said that Israel's existence is under threat again.
The deal being prepared, as he has repeatedly explained, is bad because it allows Iran to establish itself in the position of a nuclear power, that is able in the presence of political will to obtain nuclear weapons in a short time.
The trip caused discontent at the White House, where Netanyahu was refused to be received, and caused criticism for the prime minister at home. This position of Netanyahu, together with his decision to speak in Congress against the opinion of the Obama administration, have already caused tensions between the two governments.
The opposition accuses Netanyahu of readiness to risk the relationship with key strategic allies for extra points in the upcoming parliamentary elections, in which Netanyahu will be heading for victory for the fourth time in his career and the third time in a row by the country's government.
