Tehran waiting for Vladimir Putin

Tehran waiting for Vladimir Putin

The spokeswoman of Iran's Foreign Ministry, Marzieh Afkham, said that Tehran expects a visit from Russian President Vladimir Putin in the near future.

"A visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Iran is expected in the near future," RIA Novosti cited her.

Tehran has previously expressed hope for the Russian leader's visit to the Islamic republic. In January 2015, Iranian Ambassador to the Russian Federation Mehdi Sanai reported that they were working on this issue, but "there are no formal terms yet".

An adviser to the President of the Russian Federation, Sergey Glazyev, in an interview with Vestnik Kavkaza noted the mutual interest of Russia and Iran in creating the widest coalition, which will resist the political and economic aggression of the West. "Iran is a large, rapidly-developing country, which has always been our partner. We have a long history of cooperation. This history was filled with different periods, problems, dramatic events and conflicts. But, given the danger of a new world war coming from the United States and its NATO allies, we must form the broadest coalition possible. Iran and Russia are mostly interested in this, because the United States has proclaimed Syria, Iran and Russia as their main enemies and targets," Glazyev noted in September on the eve of the Caspian summit in Astrakhan.

According to him, the situations in Russia and Iran are largely similar."Russia needs to bridle the American aggression, which today has occupied the territory of a large European country, I speak about Ukraine, established a dictatorship in Kiev and uses it to create neo-fascist forces, which will be used against Russia. We see a similar situation in the Middle East, where extremists nurtured by the Americans have created a whole terrorist state - don't forget that the USA stands at the origins, arms supply, and the formation of the terrorists of so-called Islamic State. That is, a world war is beginning with the aggression of the USA against Russia in Ukraine and against Iran and Syria in the Middle East," the adviser to the President of the Russian Federation said. "We are the first victims of this aggression. Therefore, we certainly need to find a common language. We have to convince our partners to build a broad anti-war coalition and rely on trade and economic cooperation. Iran and Russia have great prospects for developing this sphere. We need to involve Iran in the process of Eurasian economic integration, since Iran is our very important economic partner. Our economies are complementary to each other and we could develop deeper trade and economic cooperation and more joint investments than we have been doing so far," Sergey Glazyev concluded.
