Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev plans to declare his resignation at a session of the extended board of the ministry, which will be attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Gazeta.ru reports.
The exact date of the session has not been chosen, it is expected in March. Kolokoltsev will stay in office for two weeks after declaring his resignation.
Media reported in autumn 2014 that Kolokoltsev had filed a resignation note but did not leave his post. Victor Zolotov, the commander of the Internal Forces of the Interior Ministry and the head of the Presidential Security Service in 2000-2013, is considered a possible successor to Kolokoltsev. The latter has been heading the ministry since 2012. He had been the Moscow police chief prior to the ministerial post.
