Three more self-nominated applicants have applied to run for the presidency of Kazakhstan in the snap election, the Central Electoral Commission said.
Self-nominated applicants Kairat Maishev, Bakhtiyar Estemesov and Kanat Turageldiev submitted the required document to the commission. The CEC does not provide data on the age or occupation of applicants.
Thus, the total number of applicants to run for the presidency has reached 14 people, including 13 self-nominated applicants and one applicant from the Communist People's Party of Kazakhstan. One has been already approved to run as a candidate in the election. Limane Koyshieva obtained the sheets required for signature collection. The CEC has previously rejected the candidacies of five applicants.
The snap presidential election in Kazakhstan is scheduled for April 26. This decision was made after numerous appeals by public organizations and citizens to hold the presidential election in 2015, given the difficult economic situation in the world and for the presidential election not to coincide with the parliamentary elections in 2016.
