Russian President Vladimir Putin has introduced the protocol on a nuclear-free zone in Central Asia for approval in the State Duma, TASS reports.
The nuclear-free zone agreement was signed by Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in Semipalatinsk in September 2006. It came into force on March 21, 2009.
All signatories take the responsibility to refrain from developing or obtaining nuclear weapons, their deployment, transportation, testing and use. The protocol stipulates that the countries will not use or threaten to use nuclear weapons.
Russia signed the protocol on May 6, 2014, together with other countries possessing nuclear weapons.
