Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates have launched an operation in Yemen to support the President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi in his fight with the Houthi movement.
The Gulf Cooperation Council issued a statement that its members "are going to respond to the request of President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi and protect the legitimate government of Yemen from Huthis."
Later, Egypt and Pakistan announced their intention to join the military operation. The Moroccan authorities, in their turn, declared "complete solidarity’" with Saudi Arabia regarding the Houthis.
The operation began with air strikes in the Yemeni capital Sana'a.
Huthis said that in the north of the capital, the Binnie-Hawat district was hit by airstrikes.
The coalition has actually isolated Yemen from the whole world. It announced that the country's airspace is now closed, as well as Yemeni ports, RIA Novosti reports.
