Azerbaijan will be represented as a full member at all the events that will take place at the platform of G20 summit, chaired by Turkey, the press service of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry informs. The negotiations on a given platform will be held in two directions - Sherpa (special representatives of states and governments) and finance. Issues related to finance will be coordinated by the Ministry of Finance of Azerbaijan, and issues related to Sherpa - by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the department said.
The Turkish city of Izmir is hosting a second meeting on Sherpa today, which involves a delegation led by Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Mahmud Mammadguliyev. Its membership also includes officials of the Ministries of Economy and Industry, Labour and Social Protection, Energy and the General Prosecutor's Office, Trend reports. The agenda includes issues of the global economy, financial regulation, taxation, employment, trade, the fight against corruption, energy and sustainable development.
Azerbaijan's participation at the G20 summit indicates the high level of economic development of the country, Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Ismail Alper Dzhoshgun said.
The diplomat said that Ankara did not hesitate in choosing which country to give the status of a participant. "As soon as it became known that Turkey has the right to invite one country to the G-20 summit, the idea of Azerbaijan was a universal opinion," he said.
Dzhoshgun immediately invited Azerbaijan to take part in the G20 summit, which will be held in Antalya in 2015.
"Azerbaijan's participation at the G20 summit will provide an opportunity to declare the contribution which can be made by the joint economic projects of Turkey and Azerbaijan. Also, this will help bring new ideas to the summit," Dzhoshgun concluded.
A scientist of the Center for Post-Soviet Studies of the RAS Institute of Economy, Artem Pylin, told Vestnik Kavkaza that Azerbaijan and Turkey, as countries which closely related by economic and infrastructure projects, will speak with one voice at the G20 summit. "Invitation of Azerbaijan is important in connection with the implementation of the Southern Gas Corridor: after the beginning of Ukraine crisis the importance of the project has risen, the EU began to pay more attention to it. The participation of Baku in the G20 summit "will let to discuss further questions on the issue of energy security of Europe," he said.The president of the Baku Interbank Currency Exchange, Farhad Amirbayov, in his turn, noted that with respect to many of the "big twenty" countries, Azerbaijan takes a link position. "G20, in addition to Turkey, includes Russia, China, India, and the EU. Azerbaijan due to its multicultural, multilingual, connectedness with different civilizations and countries can expect an interesting role as a link in the future," he said.An expert of the Center for Strategic Studies of Turkey BİLGE, political scientist Orhan Gafarli, drew attention to the fact that the participation of Azerbaijan in the activities of G20 will allow it to discuss the economic prospects of the Black Sea-Caspian region. "This is a very good moment for Azerbaijan to not only show itself in the 'Big Twenty', but also to talk about the problems of the South Caucasus with the leaders of the largest economies in the world, including the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict," he said.The expert noted that there was a reason for inviting Azerbaijan by Turkey.
