Syrian President Bashar al-Assad told Russian journalists that he had no direct dialogue with the U.S. and was in touch with Washington only with the help of third parties. The president emphasized that the U.S. had demanded that Syria stop interfering in Palestine and Lebanon and stop supporting the Iranian nuclear program, RIA Novosti reports.
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said yesterday that the U.S. was forced to hold negotiations with the Syrian authorities. The information was later retracted.
According to Assad, U.S. authorities were split into advocates of war in Syria and Iran and deployment of troops to Ukraine, and people opposed to interference in other countries in the light of the failures in Vietnam and Iraq.
The peace advocates remain a minority, Assad believes. The radical camp is determining U.S. policy in the world, the Syrian president concluded.
